What is the habit of personal initiative?

Most people are looking for some magic pill, some outside force to bring them the success they want, yet few are really willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

Even the best systems in the world will not work if you don’t have the personal initiative to focus, work hard and put some personal initiative into the process.

Your personal initiative is the fuel that makes the impossible possible

It’s what gives you the drive and the passion to go beyond where you are now, and take you to where you want to be.

I came across this video from Napoleon Hill (The author of Think and Grow Rich) on YouTube that clearly defines why this habit is of utmost importance.

About the middle of the video he lists “The 16 Traits Of Personal Initiative”, and I have listed them for you below:

Note* Please take note to number 6, this in my opinion is the primary key to success!

The Sixteen Traits Of Personal Initiative

1. Have a definite major purpose in life and a plan for its attainment
2. Form a mastermind alliance with those whose help is essential in helping you achieve your major purpose
3. Have the necessary persistence and a will to win that will carry you along when the going gets tough
4. Make decisions promptly when you have the necessary facts on which to base them, and changes them slowly if at all
5. Follow the habit of doing more than your paid for, and do it in a pleasing positive mental attitude
6. Accept full responsibility for everything you undertake and never pass the buck when things go wrong or don’t go your way
7. Take friendly criticism without resentment when needed because you know you will profit from it
8. Know the basic motives that inspire all human endeavors and never request anything by someone without giving them an adequate motive for doing so.
9. Never express an opinion about something unless you have thought it through and are prepared to state how you came to your opinion
10. Follow the habit of listening much, and talking only when you something to say that will benefit yourself and others
11. Have a well-developed sense of observation regarding the small details, and know your craft from the smallest detail to the greatest.
12. Never tell anyone to do anything without suggesting why it should be done and  how it may be done best
13. Follows the habit of putting your full attention on one thing at a time
14. Develop a mental attitude that is positive at all times when in communication with other people
15. If you get asked a question answer with a direct answer, even if you don’t know the correct answer
16. Never put off today what could have been done last week, because the habit for procrastination is on the top of the list for reasons for failure

You will be a leader in your niche when you put these traits of personal initiative to work in your life and your business.

However, even though this thriving site is considered to be the hottest place to build an MLM business online, we must remember to make it personal.

Most internet network marketers are so focused on writing articles and driving traffic with the “Marketing” part, that they tend to forget the simple value of a hello through a facebook video.

The impact of video over text is so great that I am just not sure why most people are so afraid of using it.

Network marketing on Facebook is really no different from doing it offline, you just need to use all the tools at your disposal.

While video can be a scary thing for those that don’t like the camera, its time to get rid of that fear, and just make it happen.

Who cares if your hair isn’t perfect. Who cares if you have a wart on your face. Who cares if your eyebrows are bushy, just start to connect with people through video.

Network marketing on facebook needs to be personal, and it needs to simple to do and it doesn’t get any simpler than this.

I recently wrote an article on “Relational Marketing” that addresses this topic to some extent, but this article and video really help you to put it in action in a practical sense.

Facebook really should be your number one place to network and make new friends, hence the term that I like to say, Facebook Network marketing.

Network marketing on Facebook is based upon relationships.

It’s really no different thank the offline world. Therefore you must break the ice and get out from behind the keyboard and connect people.

This simple feature on facebook can have you connecting with your new friends like no other way possible. Network marketing on facebook is not really that hard when you have tools like this to connect.

I have literally never seen this implemented in any way by most people in network marketing that are trying to use the internet to build their business. I could be wrong, but I personally have seen so little of it.

If you look right on the status update on your profile, or you go to the profile of any body else, you will see this little link right above the status bar.

This will allow you to record a video right from your desktop to facebook. No editing, No producing, No text overlay, nothing to do except record and stop. Anybody can do this and it’s simple basic network marketing at it’s best.

Not only is this simple, but you can personalize the video by saying their name, mentioning something that they have brought to the table in terms of value from a blog or status updates they have made. This will immediately create a bond with you and your new facebook friend like no other.

Just remember, when doing network marketing on facebook, use the tools available to make the experience as personal as possible.

Helen Keller once stated “It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision.”

Sometimes we don’t realize that the solution to the problem we face is literally right on the other side of what we can see.

Your ability to reach and push yourself to limits you didn’t think you could go are crucial to success in anything you set out to do.

Looking outside the normal way of thinking is what is required many times so that we can overcome whatever it may be that is hold us back, or to move our business to the next level.

There is more information and product launches now days that it can literally make your head spin with confusion, and it can seriously hamper your ability to get results.

Don’t get me wrong I am not opposed to great products and increasing our skill sets by any means. However, simply buying a course or some type of info product will not guarantee your success.

There is one key component that will separate you from the rest of the crowd, and that is taking action in your network marketing business and taking action on what you have learned.

If you want more leads for your business, you have to take action and do the actual marketing part to begin to see any results.

What I find to really hamper myself is when I have Skype on, or have my emails constantly open and dinging in the background while I am trying to work.

Really what this is, is a recipe for distractions galore, and recipe to get you off doing something other than what you should be doing.

Now I understand that these are necessary  to use, and its important for communication, but the distraction factor is massive, and your productivity factor goes down as well.

So lowering your distraction factor is a must if you want to get things accomplished. Set a specific time to use these tools each day, and stick to it.

You can get all the training in the world, all the keys to building a thriving business, how to build your business in every way imaginable, but if you don’t get your mindset correct, none of that will matter.

Success in business hinges on one thing, and that is your ability to get better at what you do, develop your skills, and your ability to improve yourself in handling and building your business each and every day.

The first thing that you must do is to take full responsibility for your actions and not blame anybody else if you are not having success.

Business responsibility is taking your business serious, working hard to accomplish your goals, never blaming others for a lack of success, and never quitting!

The success of your business is based squarely on your decision to take ownership of your enterprise, and how you approach it is what makes all the difference in the world.

You see most people in network marketing have never had a business before, they have never had to take full business responsibility for their success because the business plan, and the direction of the company was always taken care of by someone else.

Most people just go where they are told, do the job they were hired to do, and go home. That’s why there must be a shift in your thinking if you want to be successful in your own business. You must take yourself from the employee mindset, to the business responsibility and business owner mindset.

This transition is not always easy, in fact it can be down right hard and difficult for most without a solid commitment, but if you want time and freedom, than this a necessity that must take place between your ears.

When I first started in network marketing about 8 years ago, I was naive in thinking that I didn’t need to develop myself. But just like any career, its imperative to get better, increase your personal value to others and stay tapped into the latest marketing resources and training available.

I have since learned that taking business responsibility is the only way I was going to succeed in anything that I set out to do business wise.

Personal development and responsibility is not a chore, it’s not something that should be burdensome.

It is really just taking a good hard look at yourself, and being honest with yourself on where you lack, and where you need to get better. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad person, it just means getting clear on where improvement can happen.

You must align yourself with others who have gone before you and have been successful. When you do this, the strength of the one can pull you up to new heights.

Associations are everything in terms of success in anything you do in life. My favorite book, The Bible, shows us that association makes all the difference in how we live our life.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

There is a saying, and it goes like this: “If you hang around 5 broke people, you are bound to be the 6th”

Basically what that means is that, you are the combined average of the 5 people you hang out with the most. If the five people you hang out with the most are all broke, you will be too.

If you hang out with 5 people who have no ethics, guess what? Your ethics (if you have some. lol) will begin to go down the tube as well.

On the other hand, if you hang out with five people who are rich and who conduct business with ethics you are bound to be rich also just from association.

You must learn to adapt your thinking patterns to those who are successful, and then align yourself if you want to be successful yourself.

A good place to start would be to do a vision statement like I have here on my blog. A vision statement can help you clearly define who you are what you want to become.

After making your vision statement, take the time to review where you are lacking, and come up with a game plan to get better in that area.

So in conclusion…….

Business responsibility is the name of the game when you’re seeking success!

Business responsibility is the only way an entrepreneur can ensure he/she is successful in their business!

Business responsibility is associating with like-minded people who can pull you up to new heights of success and moral character!

To many people get into this industry and are looking for a hand out, or are unwilling to make the changes necessary to see success in their business because making the shift mentally is to hard for them handle.

The entrepreneur mindset vs. the employee mindset

The entrepreneur gets paid for production. The employee gets paid for his time.

The entrepreneur mindset understands he must provide value to the marketplace if he is to make money.

The employee knows that he shows up to a job, punches the clock and gets paid for the time he spends working.

The entrepreneur knows he may spend a lot of time up front with no pay but in the end he will receive a potential huge reward for his efforts.

The employee knows he will get paid the same amount per hour even if he/she works harder than the previous hour.

The entrepreneur mindset is opportunity driven while the employee mindset is security driven.

The entrepreneur seeks to pay for great training and mentoring, as well develops himself personally, while the employee wants his employer to train him, and pay for it.

The truth is, being an entrepreneur is not easy, in fact it can be flat-out hard and discouraging at times, but the rewards and the payoff are big.

The freedom you can experience is so worth the effort put into it, but the big question is, are you willing to pay the price for that freedom?

Are you willing to adopt the entrepreneur mindset and make changes in your thinking that support that of an entrepreneur lifestyle?

If you are not willing to put in the sacrifice, then keep working as an employee. Not everybody is cut out to be an entrepreneur and that is fine. Just BE HONEST ABOUT IT!

There is no shame in being an employee or working for someone. However, don’t complain about it, don’t complain about it when things don’t go your way.

Don’t whine that you’re not making enough money, or you have a boss that is “treating you wrong”, or you don’t deserve this or that, because in the end, you have a choice as to what way you want to go.

Our world is rapidly moving to the world of the entrepreneur and if you don’t change your mindset today, I can almost for sure promise you that you will need to make this change eventually, because the world economy and market is changing fast.
