Unless you have been under a rock somewhere for the last 10 years YouTube is a mammoth of a site and can bring you tons of traffic, leads, and sales.

I have used YouTube for years to generate leads, and quite frankly, I can't imagine my business without it.

When getting views to your videos, the goal is to actually covert that view into a lead and get them on your email list.

How do you do that?

Here are three ways to move people from actually viewing your video to getting them to your website and on your list.

#1: Put A Watermark On Your Videos

Believe it or not, a great way to get leads is to actually watermark your videos with your website address.

There are a couple of reasons I like this approach. You can do it with what we call a lower third as shown in the image below…

Or you can even do it with some other image that has your website in it.

This way if someone downloads your video for their own purposes, it will always be branded with your website or name referencing where people can get the original source of the information.

In recent years many marketers download and use other peoples videos and then re-upload them to drive traffic to their own offers.

Is that ethical?

In my opinion no. Especially if they don't give you credit with a link in the description.

But people do it anyway, so make sure you brand your video and if you ever have that happen, you can still have people check out your website.

#2: Utilize Lead Cards

This is important because these actually allow people to click off the video to your website. However, you only get this function of clicking off to a website if you are a part of the YouTube partner program. You can get more information here.

My suggestion when using these is to strategically place them throughout the video so people have the option to click them as they view the content.

Especially when you have parts in the video emphasizing certain pain points, this is the perfect place to give them the opportunity to click off and see more.

You also want to place these cards are points where people are dropping off in your video. This will help people stay on your videos.

One thing that is very important for you to consider is to make sure whatever you have them clicking on is congruent with your original video.

This will take up your conversions in a massive way.

#3: Put A Link In The Description

Now, this is probably no big surprise, but you would be shocked if I told you how many people still don't do this. Seriously, I was just helping a client of mine and she didn't have links in the description of her videos.

Of course, I brought it up and I mentioned that its a potential way for people to get her site, and that every video must have a link in the description even if it's just to their blog. See the image below…

One thing to keep in mind when putting a link in the description of the video, make sure you have (http://) before the link. If you do not do this, the link will not be clickable.

Again, you would be surprised if I told you just how many people actually don't do this….lol Its crazy. I have seen so many videos that don't have this before their links and the link is not clickable.

All those potential visitors to their website are lost and conversions go way down. So don't forget to do this as its super important.

Conclusion

Every video you put up on YouTube is a potential lead source and therefore it would be a shame to lose those potential leads by not following these simple steps that take an extra 5 minutes to do with every video you create.

Take action, do this faithfully and you begin to see residual lead flow coming in daily.

This is just part of what it takes to succeed on YouTube. There are many strategies and tactics you can use to dominate YouTube.

Great stuff Mark! I use Youtube, and am now learning and hearing of new sites that are going to be competing with Youtube and they are getting a lot of buzz by some big channels on Youtube. Do you know anything about these other video platforms, and if so, will the concept be the same on how to generate leads with them as well? Or do you or are you planning to use other video platforms besides Youtube?
