Amongst the people I talk to, clients and others online alike, I find that there are a lot of misconceptions about online marketing.

A lot of people seem to be believing others’ opinions rather than what is actually true to fact.

In this article, I want to share with you the top five myths about online marketing that you need to know in order to be successful.

But first, check out this LIVE training I did recently where I talk about all 5 of these myths (Misconceptions) in detail.

Here Are The Five Myths Many Believe About Online Marketing That Are Simply NOT True!

Myth #1: Lots of Followers = Lots of Money

People have this idea that if you have a lot of followers, subscribers, or even views, they are successful and making a lot of money.

However, THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE, as the views aren’t always translating into opt-ins, leads, or sales of any sort.

There are lots of influencers who have big followings, but aren’t monetizing it; in other words, they are not making a lot of money from that following.

But there are other people who have less than 1000 followers who are making multiple six-figure incomes because they are properly engaging their followers.

So the idea that you have to have a lot of followers to make money online is just not true, and a lot of people get hung up on these vanity metrics that are not helping them at all.

A high number of followers or likes or names on your email list only gives you an idea of who you may be reaching, not how engaged these people are.

These types of “Vanity Metrics” are good for puffing up the ego, but NOT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!

Myth #2: Email Marketing is Dead

Many people think that email marketing is no longer relevant, but this could not be farther from the truth.

While it's true that the younger generation is not using email as much as people did ten years ago, there’s more to it than that.

Lots of workplaces still communicate with their employees through email, so young people still have email addresses in order to apply for jobs and speak with the companies they work at.

It’s a requirement for young people to know how to use email, and many of them are already acclimated to receiving emails and communicating through email.

The people who are saying that email marketing is dead are probably trying to sell you something by making email marketing look bad.

Myth #3: Facebook Advertising is Expensive

I’ve been hearing that Facebook ad costs are on the rise now, and in certain niches, that may be true.

However, in my niche, Facebook ad costs have gone way down.

For myself, I used to generate leads at about $4 to $5 each, and now I’m generating leads for about $1 to $1.50 each.

Having someone with experience in navigating these waters to help you out is definitely an asset, but you should always question what you hear because anyone can say anything online.

The best way to find answers is to test things out on your own.

Myth #4: You Don’t Need to Make Videos

This myth is near and dear to my heart because I love video marketing.

If you are not creating videos, you are not connecting with the right people and severely missing out on what could be a huge game-changer for you.

While you can definitely build a business and make money without creating videos, it’s going to be a lot harder than if you just got over your fear and started to create them.

We live in a culture where people want transparency; they want to know who they’re doing business with. They want to see your face, hear your voice, and see your mannerisms.

Creating videos allows you to build that bridge between you and your clients.

Nine times out of ten, people don’t want to make videos or don’t believe they need them to be successful because they are fearful about putting themselves out there.

If this is you, I would say you’re cutting yourself short and making things a lot harder for yourself.

Myth #5: Negative Comments Are a Bad Thing

A lot of times, when you’re putting yourself out there, you get negative comments on what you’re doing. This may seem disheartening, but this is the key to success.

Social media algorithms thrive on engagement, any engagement. Negative comments, in fact, create more engagement, which gets your stuff out there further and faster.

So for every person, you tick off, you’re probably going to find five to seven people who really like you and your content.

Regardless, when you’re out there online and having an impact on viewers, negative comments are inevitable, so it is in your best interest to brush them off and use them to your advantage.
