In my over 15 years of being a home business owner I have learned many of the mistakes that people make when attempting to build their business.

These mistakes are typical among a large majority of new home business owners when just starting out.

When I first got going over 15 years ago, I made these mistakes as well and over time learned to correct them.

Mistake #1 – Not Treating Your Business Like A Business

Many don't realize that running a business from home is just like any other successful business out there.

It has the potential to be an incredibly successful business provided you have a good product that meets a need in the market place.

To many people treat their home business like a little rinky dink business only meant to make a few extra hundred bucks a month.

Part of the reason many people think this way is they are hurting financially and just want to ease the pain and pay the obligations.

While this is not a bad reason to get involved in a business, its certainly not the potential end.

Part of growing your business is learning to have the vision for what is possible. Learn to see your business far beyond a hobby and look at it as the million dollar enterprise that it is and you will find it more enjoyable.

If you treat your business like a hobby, it will pay you like a hobby. If you treat it like a million dollar enterprise, it has the potential to pay you that way also.

Remember, this is a business and you must treat it as such.

Mistake #2 – Not Committed To Personal Growth

This is by far the biggest mistake I made when I first got going in my home business. I was one of those guys that didn't believe in the need for personal development.

Think of personal development as simply getting trained on how to do things better.

Think of it as how to build your business more effectively. Education is the greatest weapon a home business owner can have.

My education of my craft is by far the biggest amount in my budget ever month. I am constantly purchasing and devouring training and personal development so I can be better for my customers and my students.

I do this because I want to be at the top of my game personally.

I remember when I worked for corporate america my company was always sending me to ongoing training classes.

Why?

Because they knew the importance of staying on top of the latest and greatest strategies for personal production and commitment.

Its the same thing in your home business except for one thing, you are the business owner, so you have to pay for it now.

But that shouldn't be a big deal should it? Did you know that people pay on average 30K-50K for a college education so they “might” get a good job? Why should it be any different for your home business career?

Its not so don't make the mistake I made early on. Commit to personal development and ongoing education for yourself.  Your business success depends on it.

Mistake #3 – Neglecting Live Events

This is by far one of the biggest keys to success as far as I am concerned. I found that the more live events that I went too, the more my business grew.

I remember I was being encouraged to go to a live event early on in my home business career and the person I was talking too told me “When you go to a live event it goes from your head to your heart”.

That simple statement changed me forever. I learned right there one of the key factors to my success.

There is something that happens at live events that literally can't be described in a simple one on one conversation.

You have to experience the event to see why it makes a difference. The friendships and connections I have formed over the years are by far the #1 reason I have been able to earn a significant income today with my business.

Not because I am special, but because I committed early on to be at events regularly and commit to them.

Don't make the grave mistake of thinking you don't need live events. YOU DO!

Conclusion

Over my 15 years in this industry I have learned a lot in my personal journey. Many from making the very mistakes I mention on this blog post and video.

I invite you to really hone in on being the success you deserve to be.

To your success,
