Getting better is the hallmark of true entrepreneurship.

I have never met a successful business owner that is not committed to getting better at what they do and how they think.

Do you want to be a better entrepreneur?

Then these eight simple steps will help you do just that.

Step #1: Visualize The Success You Crave

The best thing you can do when finding yourself at rock bottom is to get a new picture and visualize your success.

You can't set a new course if you are so focused on where you are. Visualizing where you want to be is crucial.

Sometimes it's hard because all you see is your current situation. I get it… I was there myself at one point.

But if you really have a goal, you have to see yourself there first before you can attain it.

Step 2: Focus on One Task at a Time

Building a house is done one brick at a time or one board at a time. It's the same thing with your business.

The best way I can describe to understand this point is to read the book “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson.

We live in a culture that is obsessed with fast and easy. While this isn't bad in all instances, it is bad when trying to go against the laws of sowing and reaping.

It's virtually impossible to go from nothing to something without putting in some elbow grease and work to make it happen over a sustained period of time.

Well, I guess you could win the lottery but we know that isn't going to happen.

I think this verse pretty much sums it up…

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 NIV

Step 3: Take Sustained Action

Keying off of point #2 you have to take action if you expect to get results. It's not just taking action on one day, it's taking action over a 90 -100 day period that will yield results.

The results you see today are from the action you did or didn't take 90 days ago.

To many take action for a short period of time but then stop and wonder why they are not getting results.

It's more than likely due to not doing it long enough and consistently enough.

Step 4: Say “NO” When You Need Too

Another great way to stay focused is to know when to say NO!

If you are like me I love to get along with people and I love for people to like me, unfortunately, this can lead to also trying to please people all the time.

This can lead to overwhelm and it can distract you from your overall goal.

Learn to say NO when it's needed and make sure you don't get distracted.

Step 5: Value Your Time

It's simple if you don't value your time others won't either. Never be afraid to charge for your time.

Your time is very valuable when it comes to building your business. Learning to make the best use of your time is crucial to obtaining your overall success.

With that, it's important that you combine this with point #4 and being able to say NO.

Wasting time is so easy now days so make sure you spend your time wisely.

Step 6: Do You Need Help? Then Ask For It!

I recently had someone that decided that they were no longer going to pursue their business because they didn't get any help.

The crazy thing is… they never asked for it either…lol

If you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it.

Now it's important to point out and make sure you do your part first, but if you feel what you are doing is not working, get a perspective from someone that makes sure you are doing the right actions.

This can make all the difference in whether you succeed or fail.

Step 7: Be a Good Listener

Good listening skills are vital to your productivity and business building. Not only in talking to prospects, but for your own personal growth.

If you want to grow, you must continue to improve your thinking regularly.

This starts with learning from everything around you even things you might disagree with.

I can't tell you how much I have learned to listen to even people that I disagree with them on a philosophical level. Today in the age of perpetual outrage and division, learning to listen is key.

But when someone is good at something you should consider what they are saying.

You can learn from anything if you just open your eyes to see and your ears to hear. It's actually pretty amazing.

Step 8: Be Grateful

This is the basis of getting better with everything you do. Be grateful. That's right, thankfulness is important. Learn to enjoy where you are right now.

Although the journey can be difficult at times, remember that it's all part of your story.

Don't get bogged down with obligations that are only meant to distract you from reaching your overall goal.

Stay focused, be grateful and keep moving forward.

Hey Mark, I believe my biggest problem is taking one task at a time. When I am able to do that, I get results (imagine that). I have so many ideas and things I do to build my network marketing business, I believe I could be getting even more if I could finish a task before getting the other moving. Sometimes it’s time that’s the problem, so I really now understand valuing my time more than ever before. Great post, useful tips too!
